DVD-Video featuring impressions of Remembrance Day
2009. The Royal British Legion has organised an event called Silence in the
Square, which aims to achieve a re-instatement of the traditional two minute
silence held at 11 am on the 11th of November in remembrance of the fallen in
the two twentieth-century World Wars and other conflicts. The ceremony is
involving performances, readings and an invitation to the public to scatter
poppies on the water of the fountains in central London’s Trafalgar Square. Mark
Knopfler, with members of Only Men Aloud and the Trevor Roberts School
choir, performed Remembrance Day in Trafalgar Square shortly before 11
am, 11th November, 2009. Only the vocals were live. Unfortunately, TV stations
only showed part of Mark's performance. Luckily two fans also filmed the entire
performance which are both featured on this DVD. The first audience recording
has a sharp picture quality, but is shaky and the sound is not too well. Several
parts are taken from YouTube movies, but the picture quality is fairly good. All
in all, a nice impression of Remembrance Day 2009 with a special performance by
Mark Knopfler.
The second digital official single
Remembrance Day / Piper to the end will be released on the 9th November
2009 and the proceeds from this single will go to the Royal British Legion's
Poppy Day Appeal. |
