Additional comments Mark Knopfler, accompanied by Guy Fletcher, took the stage at the Bridport Arts Centre (Dorset, UK) on 27th September 2013. Polly Gifford, Bridport Arts Centre director, hosted the event and explored Mark's varied career. She said: “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity of talking on stage to global rock star Mark Knopfler about song writing and his amazing career, in aid of our building fund. We’re very grateful to Mark for giving his time for this special fundraising event.” Answering gentle prompts from Polly Gifford, for 90 minutes, Mark talked about his life and career interspersed with excerpts from a handful of his best-known songs: Sailing to Philadelphia, Brothers in Arms, Rüdiger, Romeo and Juliet and Sultans of Swing. Thinking of himself as a songwriter rather than a guitarist, he explained what makes him tick and how songs are like children in that you create them and then they go off and make a life of their own with their audiences. Pretty nice sound quality on most parts.
