Additional comments DVD-Video featuring the third annual MTV Video Music Awards 1986. Mark Knopfler won two awards during the show in New York. One for best group video and one for best video. Both for the Money for nothing video clip. This was the first video played on MTV Europe. The network went on the air 1st August 1987, six years after MTV in the US. The innovative video was one of the first to feature computer generated animation. The characters were supposed to have more detail, like buttons on their shirts, but they used up the budget and had to leave it as is. The show has Dutch subtitles (broadcasted on Veronica television), so no annoying translation by a reporter. After winning the second award and Mark was asked what he was going to do with them, he said they would make "cool bookends", haha! The picture quality is pretty poor unfortunately. As a bonus, the Brit Awards 1987 is added. Mark Knopfler receives an award from Robert Plant for Brothers in arms in the category "Best British album". Mark is notable surprised that he is the winner since this Brit Awards was held in 1987 and the album Brothers in arms is from 1985. Very nice to see this and of course a small speech from Mark himself. Some facts that were presented during that show: "Dire Straits' Brothers in arms achieved triple platinum status in 1986 for UK sales and has been in the album charts for 89 weeks." The picture quality is poor, but the nice thing is that it has French subtiltles, so also no annoying reporter talking on this show either. A version with better quality can be found on the DVD Brit Awards 1987. Other bonus material features some short footage of the Mark Knopfler wax figure in Madam Tussaud's Rock Circus and two short TV commercial for the Money for nothing compilation album. Total playing time of this DVD is about 16 minutes.
