Additional comments | DVD-Video featuring some very rare footage: the rehearsals for the Paul McCartney set at the Prince's Trust 10th Anniversay Birthday concert, one day before the actual concert on 20th June 1986. In 1986, Paul McCartney joined Elton John, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, Phil Collins, Dire Straits, Level 42, Paul Young and others at the Prince's Trust 10th Anniversary Birthday Concert. The story goes, according to Paul, that when he was getting ready to prepare for the event, he thought he'd have to rearrange some things and possibly sing Long tall Sally in the key of F not G. When he arrived for rehearsals, he didn't dare tell the blokes to play it a full-step lower. He toughed it out and gave a raucous rendition of Long tall Sally and I saw her standing there in their original key - the same as when he was a mop-top. But now the story takes a little twist. Get back - with incredible energy added from Tina Turner - was performed in the key of G and not A - a full-step lower. Did Paul ask that the song be played a full-step lower because of his voice? Or, did he fear ridicule from his peers for having to play two songs in lower keys and went ahead and gave it everything singing Long tall Sally? We may never know the answer to that question - and who cares anyway! Paul is having fun and it's great footage to watch. Also very nice to see is that Mark Knopfler is on stage all the time and also plays some small solo's here and there. Filmed by somebody who was actually on the stage, so this is some really rare material. The sound and picture quality are not too bad, nice enough to enjoy the recording. |
