Additional comments | 2015 Dutch pressed UK limited edition double vinyl 7" EP, issued exclusively for Record Store Day 2015, including four songs that were part of the original demo tape that Dire Straits recorded in July 1977 and which made its way to the desk of DJ Charlie Gillett. Click here for a picture of the original tape received by Charlie Gillett, taken from the forum of his own site. It also lists the exact recording date which is 24th July 1977 instead of 27th July 1977 as other sources used to say. Limited to 1000 copies only. Including rare demo versions of Sultans of swing, Water of love, Down to the waterline and Wild west end. A fifth song, Sacred loving (written and sung by David Knopfler) was also part of that demo tape, but is unfortunately never released afterwards. The songs were recorded on 24th July 1977 and first broadcasted on the Honky Tonk show, 31st July 1977. That led to the group being signed to Phonogram soon after and the rest is history. Very nice looking gatefold picture sleeve with an image of Charlie Gillett on the reverse, taken at Radio London, 1976. The front cover shows a handwritten note: Dear J, this is Dire Straits - singer/writer/guitar-player is Mark Knopfler. Band is based in Deptford. Charlie. PS. I need the tape back afterwards. Charlie Gillet passed away on 17th March 2010. |
