Additional info On 17th October 2002, Mark Knopfler was in Norway to promote The ragpicker's dream album. The host of the show had an audio recording of Chilly wind, a song that Mark Knopfler and Sue Hercombe played in 1966 on high school. A few pictures were shown of Mark and Sue. Mark explained that this was a Kay guitar 'made out of orange boxes'. He borrowed this guitar from a friend. Click here for another picture of Mark and Sue.

Additional info The laminated body of maple with grain painted faux-flame sunburst finish, and painted binding.

This mandolin was originally acquired from Yank Rachell’s nephew after his death. The instrument passed into Mark Knopfler’s ownership from a friend of Nashville guitarist Richard Bennett in the early 2000s and was kept for studio use, and occasionally tested for sound whenever a mandolin was required on a track.

This guitar was auctioned at Christie's in London on 31st January 2024. It was sold for 16.380 Pounds.
