Mark Knopfler toured with Eric Clapton on several concerts in 1987, 1988 and 1989. The concerts were part of the 25th Anniversary tour. Mark also played one or two of his own songs on most of the shows, mainly Money for nothing and on some shows also Solid rock. Guest musicians appeared on some of the shows during these years. 1987: Phil Collins, Steve Winwood and Sting. 1988: Steve Ray Vaughan, Elton John and Sting. See here a nice picture (dated 4th November 1988) of Sting and Mark where Sting was the special guest to sing on Money for nothing. 1989: Carole King. Since I don't follow Clapton very closely, the dates below are based on the MK Diary that was created in the past. Click here for a nice photo of Mark in January 1987. Click here for a nice picture of Mark and Eric in 1988 and here for a band photo from Tokyo 1988. And here a nice shot of Mark in Portland, 26th September 1988. At the end of the 1988 tour, Mark gave Eric a memorable gift: a Pensa-Suhr MK1. See here a picture from 1989 where this guitar can be seen on the top right. |
