Mark Knopfler's seventh solo
album Privateering was released on 31st August 2012. In April 2013,
the band started their rehearsals followed by the
production rehearsals in the impressive LH2
Studios in London. Professional photographer Guido Karp took some very nice
photos of Mark during these rehearsals. The tour line-up is the same as 2012,
Nigel Hitchcock joined the band on the UK concerts, the German concerts in July
except
for Lörrach
and the five shows in the USA. Mark originally planned to play two shows in
Russia. On 4th April 2013, the official Mark Knopfler site announced that Mark's shows in
Moscow (7th June 2013) and
St. Petersburg (8th June 2013) have been cancelled. Mark’s official
statement:
Given the crackdown by Russian authorities on groups including Amnesty
International and Human Rights Watch, I have regretfully decided to cancel
my upcoming concerts in Moscow and St. Petersburg in June. I have always
loved playing in Russia and have great affection for the country and the
people. I hope the current climate will change soon. MK
The cancelled date of 7th June in Russia was later filled with a second
concert The Netherlands. On the 23rd May 2013, Mark Knopfler and band (including Nigel Hitchcock) did a unique performance for a TV special in Maidstone Studios, Kent, UK. The show was filmed in front of an audience of just 200 people and was originally meant to be broadcasted at the end of 2013 on BBC television, but that did not happen. Unsure if this recording will see the light of day in the future. Click here for more details. On the tour, Mark Knopfler played six successive concerts at the Royal Albert Hall. Each of these six shows was in aid of a charity. The charities were: Elephant Family (27th May), The Royal National Institute for Blind People (28th May), The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (29th May), Tusk (30th May), The Teenage Cancer Trust (31st May) and Children North East (1st June). Ruth Moody was a special guest on all the shows at the Royal Albert Hall. She also appeared as a special guest on stage in Amsterdam, the five concerts in France (June 2013) and the last two shows of the tour in Oakland, USA. All shows of the tour, except for the TV special in Kent, the last five shows at the Royal Albert Hall and Madrid (due to the high recording fees), were recorded by the German company Bleecker Street Entertainment by professional sound engineers using multi-track audio technology. The audio soundboard recordings could be bought in the on-line shop as a souvenir on an unique USB stick in the shape of a Fender Stratocaster guitar, complete with matching case. The stick contains the full concert from beginning to end including any announcements and encores. The European concerts came on a red guitar and the USA concerts were issued on a blue guitar.
